Why Charities for Children become the fiber of our society
In the midst of unspeakable pain and hardship there are always the young people to consider. Though our society may be imperfect, may be marred by the sins of our fathers, and may be far from the ideal, we struggle to keep our babies safe and content. Charities for children and charities that help them have long since been the backbone of much fundraising and philanthropic ventures in our country and they continue to be a strong part of much of our charitable endeavors. There is no sure way to understand why it is that charity very nearly always centers around children, but there are some things to consider when making this estimation.
The polio scare of 1939 threatened the suburban domesticity that had been cultured and families were losing their one and only child. The March of Dimes is perhaps one of the best known charities for children in the country and it was born out of the fear of losing that which was most dear to families. It was no longer the focus of the country to figure out how to help their neighbors but rather, it became far more important to protect the youngest in the community. Charity has long since been focused on helping those that cannot help themselves and there is no better group than children upon which to base this assumption. Babies and young people have no way to make money on their own, no way to fight off disease and hunger, and no way to prevent the horrible things that can happen to them. It is their sheer vulnerability that makes many charities focus solely on the young rather than entire families. Children are the future of our world and without them there is no hope, this is why most charity focuses on them, this is why they are the backbone of most charities.
